The HazMobile takes all types of batteries for disposal.
Alternatively, you can contact one of the companies below:


CAR, TRUCK AND BOAT BATTERIES (WET-CELL or LEAD-ACID BATTERIES)

The Metalman will pay for lead-acid batteries at their yards at:
2 Ormiston Rd, East Tamaki (Ph 274-4567)
Mon – Fri 6 am to 6 pm and Sat 7 am to 4 pm
Takanini, 1 Rangi Road, (Ph 267-3456)
Mon – Fri 8 am to 5 pm and Sat 8 am to 4 pm

Marshall Batteries accepts unwanted car batteries free of charge at shops in Glenfield, New Lynn, Newmarket, Papatoetoe, Pukekohe, Warkworth and Whangaparoa.

The Battery Clinic will pay for batteries at their yard at:
33 Great South Road, Otahuhu, Auckland
They also have a free collection service if you phone 0800 228333

The Battery Clinic refurbish batteries for re-use rather than recycling batteries for the lead content.

HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES (DRY-CELL BATTERIES)

Not all household batteries must be taken to the HazMobile for recycling. Non-rechargeable (single use) zinc carbon, zinc chloride and alkaline batteries (AA, AAA, C, and D sizes) are not classified as hazardous waste and can be disposed of in the normal household rubbish. Please check that these batteries do not contain mercury. All other batteries, especially rechargeable Nickel-Cadmium batteries can be recycled and should be taken to the HazMobile.


MOBILE PHONES

Vodafone and Telecom operate take back schemes for mobile phones and their batteries.

You can drop off any brand of mobile phone at any Vodafone, Telecom or Noel Leeming stores.
